Concert Band - Grade 2.5 - Medium Easy

Lifelong Joy was written in honor of North Fayette-Valley (Iowa) music educator Linda Johansen for her 30 years of sharing music with students.  The piece was composed to depict the joy that music can bring to a lifetime.  Whether by performing, composing, teaching, or simply listening, music positively impacts all of our lives.

Every beginning band teacher and every band student should be familiar with the song Hot Crossed Buns.  It is a staple in early band curriculum.  To celebrate the work of band directors, this composition has hints of the three note theme hidden throughout, both in the foreground and background.  At the conclusion of the piece, the most noticeable statement occurs in the alto sax solo.  See how many variations of Hot Crossed Buns you can find!

Remember, our lives are like a symphony.  It can't all be major chords or it doesn't work.  There has to be some major and minor, but together they work to create a wonderful piece of music.  Your life's composition is still being composed so make it beautiful!
